Commercialisation of “Madeira” Wine increased by 13.5% in volume and 8.5% in value

According to data provided by the Madeira Wine, Embroidery and Handicraft Institute, P.I., the commercialisation of “Madeira” wine topped 707,000 litres, generating first sale receipts of 3.6 million euros. In comparison with the corresponding period of 2013, the quantities sold increased by 13.5% while the sales value grew by 8.5%.

For the period from January to September 2014, the year-on-year change rate was also positive. The sales volume increased by 10.7%, while the value grew by 8.6%.

It should be highlighted that in first nine months of 2014, exports to Germany recorded noticeable year-on-year increases of 64.1% in volume and 75.2% in first sale receipts. The main external market – France – also presented positive change rates (+9.3% in the quantities sold and +7.9% in value). On the other hand, sales in the local market dropped by 12.4% in volume and 14.2% in value.
