Steady growth in the sales of “Madeira Wine” overturned the negative results of the first half of the year
According to data provided by the Madeira Wine, Embroidery and Handicraft Institute, P.I., in the 3rd quarter of 2015 the commercialisation of “Madeira” wine topped 790,000 litres, generating first sale receipts of 4.7 million euros. In comparison with the corresponding period of 2014, the quantities sold increased by 11.7% while the sales value grew by 30.9%.
In the period from January to September 2015, the year-on-year sales volume decreased by 1.6%, while the value grew by 0.8%.
It should be highlighted that in the first nine months of 2015, exports to Belgium recorded noticeable year-on-year increases of 29.6% in volume and 56.1% in first sale receipts.
The main external market – France – also presented positive change rates (+8.2% in the quantities sold and +12.2% in value). On the other hand, sales in the local market dropped by 12.3% in volume and 15.8% in value.
