Trade balance of the Autonomous Region of Madeira with foreign countries was negative
According to preliminary data for 2016, the Region’s trade balance of goods with foreign countries stood at -34.1 million Euros, representing a coverage rate of imports by exports of 71.9%. These results mean that, compared to 2015, the trade balance worsened, because according to the provisory results for 2015 the balance between exports and imports had been -25.9 million Euros while the coverage rate had reached 80.2%.

In 2016, exports totaled 87.3 million Euros (105.0 million Euros compared with the previous year), 66.0% of which destined for Third Countries (i.e. outside the EU), while imports reached 121.4 million Euros (130.9 million Euros in the previous year), 89.0% of which coming from the EU.
