According to preliminary data, the trade balance of the Autonomous Region of Madeira with foreign countries had a surplus of 102.7 million euros

According to preliminary data for 2020, the Region’s trade balance of goods with foreign countries stood at +102.7 million Euros representing a coverage rate of imports by exports of 171.8%. In 2019, the balance between exports and imports was +100.0 million Euros and the coverage rate reached 158.1%. 2019 was the fourth consecutive year in which the trade balance had a surplus.

In 2020, exports totalled 245.7 million Euros, decreasing by 9.7% from the previous year, while imports reached 143.0 million Euros, down by 16.9% from 2018.  54.4% of exports were destined for Third Countries (i.e. outside the EU) and 77.3% of imports came from the EU.
