In the first nine months of 2022
Region's trade balance with foreign countries had a surplus of 83.2 million euros
According to preliminary data for the first nine months of 2022, the Region's trade balance on goods with foreign countries recorded a surplus of 83.2 million euros, higher than in the same period of the previous year (45.3 million euros). This represents a coverage rate of imports by exports of 145.5%, higher than that recorded in the first nine months of 2021, which stood at 132.1%.

In the period under review, total exports from companies headquartered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira reached 266.1 million euros, having increased by 42.9% compared to the first nine months of 2021, while imports were around 182.9 million euros, up by 29.8% compared to the same period of the previous year. From January to September 2022, most exports were destined for third countries (65.1% of the total), while in what concerns imports, the European Union countries remained concentrated the larger share (77.8%).
