In the first quarter of 2023
Trade balance of the Autonomous Region of Madeira with foreign countries was positive at 19.6 million euros
According to preliminary data for the first quarter of 2023, the trade balance of the Autonomous Region of Madeira with foreign countries recorded a surplus of 19.6 million euros, which was lower compared to the same period last year (26.2 million euros). This results in an import coverage rate by exports of 125.5%, which is lower than the figure of 146.7% recorded in the first three months of 2022.

During the reference period, the total exports of companies based in the Autonomous Region of Madeira reached approximately 96.2 million euros, representing a 16.9% increase compared to the first quarter of 2022. On the other hand, imports amounted to 76.6 million euros, representing a 36.7% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. In the first quarter of 2023, the majority of exported goods were directed to third countries (69.0% of the total), while imports remained predominantly sourced from European Union countries (71.3%).
