In the 1st quarter of 2024
Trade balance of the Autonomous Region of Madeira with foreign countries was positive at 22.4 million euros
According to preliminary data for the 1st quarter of 2024, the trade balance of the Region with foreign countries recorded a surplus of 22.4 million euros, higher than that of the same period last year (18.0 million euros). This translates to a coverage rate of imports by exports of 137.7%, higher than that recorded in the first three months of 2023, which stood at 123.5%.

During the reference period, the total exports from enterprises based in the Region reached 81.8 million euros, decreasing by 13.4% compared to the 1st quarter of 2023, while imports amounted to 59.4 million euros, which is 22.4% lower compared to the same period of the previous year. In the 1st quarter of 2024, the majority of exported goods were destined for third countries (53.9% of the total), while imports continued to be predominantly sourced from European Union countries (81.4%).
