In the second quarter of 2018

Estimated unemployment rate was 8.3%

The Labour Force Survey results for the second quarter of 2018 indicate that the Unemployment Rate for Madeira was estimated at 8.3%, the lowest value of the current series (which begins in the 1st quarter 2011). This value decreased by 2.7 percentage points (p.p.) when compared with the same quarter of 2017 and 0.8 p.p. from the previous quarter.

The unemployment rate for Portugal reached 6.7% (1.2 p.p. lower than the previous quarter, dropping by 2.1 p.p. year-on-year).

The estimate of the unemployed population in  Madeira stood at 11.2 thousand persons, having recorded a quarterly decrease of 7.1% (-900 unemployed persons).

The employed population was estimated at 123.8 thousand persons, representing a quarterly increase of 2.2% (+2.6 thousand persons employed).
