In the second quarter of 2019

Estimated unemployment rate was 6.9%

The Labour Force Survey results for the second quarter of 2019 indicate that the unemployment rate for the Autonomous Region of Madeira was estimated at 6.9%. This value decreased by 1.4 percentage points (p.p.) when compared with the same quarter of 2018 and decreased by 0.1 p.p. from the previous quarter. In the reference quarter, Autonomous Region of Azores became the region with the highest unemployment rate (8.2%), followed by Área Metropolitana de Lisboa (7.1%). Centro had the lowest rate 4,7%.

The unemployment rate for Portugal stood at 6.3%, down by 0.5 p.p. from the previous quarter and  also down by 0.4 p.p. year-on-year.

The estimate of the unemployed population in Madeira stood at 9.5 thousand persons, having recorded a quarterly decrease of 2.4% and a year-on-year drop of 15.1%.

The employed population was estimated at 128.9 thousand persons, representing a quarterly decrease of 0.2% and a year-on-year increase of 4.2%.
