In the first quarter of 2015

Unemployment rate was estimated at 15.8%

The Labour Force Survey results for the first quarter of 2015 indicate that the unemployment rate for Madeira was estimated at 15.8%. This value is up by 0.7 percentage points (p.p.) from the previous quarter (15.1%) and down by 0.6 p.p. from same quarter of 2014 (16.4%).

The unemployment rate in Portugal stood at 13.7% (13.5% in the previous quarter).

In the period of reference, the estimate of the unemployed population in the Autonomous Region of Madeira was 20,964 persons, recording a quarterly increase of 5.5% (+1,098 unemployed persons) and a year-on-year decrease of 2.3% (-496 persons).

There were 111,896 employed persons, which corresponds to a quarterly increase of 0.4% (+488 employed persons). Compared to the same period of the previous year the number of employed persons grew by 2.3% (+2,482 employees).
