Main fuels released for consumption increased by 2.3% over the previous year
In 2016, the main fuels released for consumption (diesel oil and gasoline) in the Autonomous Region of Madeira stood at 137.7 million litres, increasing by 2.3% compared to 2015. 96.2 million litres of the main fuel – diesel oil - were released for consumption in the reference period, up by 2.4% over the previous year. In the case of the gasolines, the demand for unleaded 95 gasoline rose by 0.7% while the demand for unleaded 98 increased by 7.7%. The sales of these fuels were 33.8 and 7.7 million litres, respectively.
Concerning gas, the release for consumption of propane and butane in 2016 topped 13.2 (down by 10.9% over the previous year) and 5.7 thousand tonnes (-2.1%), respectively. 20.2 thousand tonnes of natural gas were released for consumption in the reference period, a 5.4% decrease when compared with 2015.
Taking in consideration the September to December period, the data reveal that the volume of the main fuels released for consumption stood at 34.3 million litres, decreasing by 0.9% compared to the same period of 2015. The volume of diesel oil released for consumption dropped by 1.0% while unleaded 95 gasoline fell by 1.5% and unleaded 98 gasoline went up by 2.7% year-on-year.
Mean prices in 2016 dropped
In 2016, the mean maximum selling prices of diesel oil stood at €1.096, 5.3 cents below the 2015 mean. In the case of the unleaded 95 gasoline, the drop between 2015 and 2016 reached 11.5 cents. The mean price for this year was €1.372.
In the 4th quarter of 2016, the mean price for diesel oil was €1.147, higher than price registered in the corresponding quarter of 2015 (€1.096). If compared to the previous quarter, the price of this type of fuel shows an increase of 3.5 cents.
The mean price for unleaded 95 gasoline was €1.397, down by 3.1 cents compared to the 4th quarter of 2015 and also 2.3 cents higher than in the previous quarter.
