In the 1st quarter of 2020
Main fuels released for consumption decreased by 5.5% year-on-year
In the 1st quarter of 2020, the main fuels released for consumption (diesel oil and gasoline) in the Autonomous Region of Madeira totalled 33.3 million litres, decreasing by 5.5% compared to the same period of 2019.
The growth rates in the three months of the quarter were uneven. While in January in February, the aggregate of diesel oil and gasoline increased by 0.3% and 3.0%, respectively, in March this indicator sunked 19.1%, due to the strict measures to contain the new coronavirus pandemic.
24.1 million litres of the main fuel - diesel oil - were released for consumption in the reference period, down by 4.8% over the same quarter of the previous year. In the case of gasolines, the demand for unleaded 95 gasoline dropped by 8.8% while the demand for unleaded 98 decreased by 3.2%. The sales of these fuels were 7.0 and 2.2 million litres, respectively.
Concerning gas, the release for consumption of propane and butane stood at 3.9 and 1.8 thousand tonnes, respectively. 6.6 thousand tonnes of natural gas were released for consumption in the reference period, up by 14.4% from the year-ago quarter.
Average price of diesel in the first quarter of 2020 was €1.265
In the 1st quarter of 2020, the mean price for diesel oil was €1.265, a higher price than the one registered in the corresponding quarter of 2019 (€1.256). If compared to the previous quarter, the price of this type of fuel shows a drop of 0.3 cents.
The mean price for unleaded 95 gasoline was €1.472, increasing 6.2 cents compared to the 1st quarter of 2019 and declining 9.0 cents from the previous quarter.
