In the first nine months of 2016
Electricity production increased by 0.2% year-on-year
In the first nine months of 2016, the electricity production, estimated from the data on the distribution of electric energy provided by the Electricity Company of Madeira, increased by 0.2% year-on-year. Breaking down the data by source it should be highlighted that the electricity generated by thermal power decreased by 6.1%, compared to the same period of 2015. This decline was compensated by the growth in production through other sources, mainly by hydropower (+58.0%) and wind power (+12.4%). Thermal power represented 70.9% of the total production in the first nine months of 2016 (75.7% in the corresponding period of 2015). It should also be mentioned that despite the year-on-year 29.1% drop, the production of thermal power based on natural gas represented 13.6% of the total production mix.
In the 3rd quarter 2016, the distribution of electric energy remained unchanged from the year-ago quarter.
