In the 1st quarter of 2017
Electricity production decreased by 1.0% year-on-year
In the 1st quarter of 2017, the electricity production, estimated from the data on the distribution of electric energy provided by the Electricity Company of Madeira, decreased by 1.0% year-on-year.
Breaking down the data by source it should be highlighted that, compared to in the first quarter of 2016, the electricity generated by thermal power decreased by 10.3%. This decline was compensated by the growth in production through other sources, mainly by hydropower (+23.0%) and wind power (+14.8%). Thermal power represented 61.1% of the total production in the first three months of 2017 (67.5% in the same period of last year). It should also be mentioned the production of thermal power based on natural gas represented 13.1% of the total production mix.
