In the first six months of 2018
Electricity production increased by 0.8% year-on-year
In the first six months of 2018, the electricity production, estimated from the data on the distribution of electric energy provided by the Electricity Company of Madeira, increased by 0.8% year-on-year. Breaking down the data by source it should be highlighted that the electricity generated by thermal power decreased by 7.4% compared to the same period of 2017. This decline was compensated by the growth in production through other sources, mainly by wind (+59.6%) and hydropower (+13.5%). Thermal power represented 61.4% of the total production in the first half of 2018 (66.8% in the same period of the previous year). It should also be mentioned that the production of thermal power based on natural gas represented 12.8% of the total production mix, having decreased by 8.9% year-on-year.
In the 2nd quarter 2018, the distribution of electric energy declined by 0.7% from the year-ago quarter.
