In the first nine months of 2019
Electricity production increased by 1.9% year-on-year
In the first nine months of 2019, the electricity production, estimated from the data of electricity distribution provided by the Madeira Electricity Company (EEM), increased by 1.9% year-on-year.
Breaking down the data by source it should be highlighted that the electricity generated by hydropower and wind power decreased by 54.4% and 15.1%, respectively. This decline was compensated by the growth in production through other sources, mainly by thermal power (+13.0%) and solid waste power (+21.2%). It should also be mentioned that the production of electric energy using natural gas represented 18.1% of the total production mix, rising by 19.8% year-on-year.
In the 3rd quarter 2019, the distribution of electric energy increased by 2.8% from the year-ago quarter.
