In the 1st quarter of 2020
Electricity production increased by 1.1% year-on-year
In the 1st quarter of 2020, the electricity production, estimated from the data on the distribution of electric energy provided by the Electricity Company of Madeira, increased by 1.1% year-on-year.
Breaking down the data by source it should be highlighted that, compared to the first quarter of 2019, the electricity generated by hydropower and solid waste power decreased by 21.9% and 17.2%, respectively. This decline was compensated by the growth in production through other sources, mainly by wind (+7.9%) and thermal power (+4.0%). It should also be mentioned that the production of electric energy using natural gas represented 19.2% of the total production mix, rising by 11.9% year-on-year.
