In the first six months of 2015
Electricity production decreased by 0.2% year-on-year
In the first six months of 2015, the electricity production, estimated from the data on the distribution of electric energy provided by the Electricity Company of Madeira, decreased by 0.2% year-on-year. Looking at the data broken down by source, it should be highlighted that hydropower and wind power production decreased by 33.4% and by 7.8% compared to the same period of 2014, respectively. This decline was compensated by the growth in production through other sources, mainly by thermal power (+5.9%), which represented roughly 71.5% of the total production in the first half of 2015 (67.3% in the corresponding period of 2014). It should also be mentioned that the production of thermal power based on natural gas represented 18.6% of the total production mix.
