In the first nine months of 2015
Electricity production increased by 0.2% year-on-year
In the first nine months of 2015, the electricity production, estimated from the data on the distribution of electric energy provided by the Electricity Company of Madeira, increased by 0.2% year-on-year. Looking at the data broken down by source, it should be highlighted that hydropower and wind power production decreased by 31.8% and by 14.7% compared to the same period of 2014, respectively. This decline was compensated by the growth in production through other sources, mainly by thermal power (+5.4%), which represented roughly 75.7% of the total production in the first nine months of 2015 (72.0% in the corresponding period of 2014). It should also be mentioned that the production of thermal power based on natural gas represented 19.3% of the total production mix.
The 1.1% year-on-year growth in the 3rd quarter of 2015 contributed to the aforementioned increase in the production of energy for the first nine months of the current year.
