DREM releases the publication of the 2019 Agricultural Census
The Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) makes available today at its website, the publication of the final results of the 2019 Agricultural Census. In addition to tables with several indicators and the concepts, the publication includes an analysis of the main results, from which the following highlights were selected:
AGRICULTURAL HOLDINGS AND UTILISED AGRICULTURAL AREA - Almost the same holdings as 10 years ago, but with fewer usable area
LEGAL PERSONALITY OF HOLDER - Agricultural enterprises accounted for more Utilised Agricultural Area than 10 years ago
TYPE OF HOLDINGS - Number of medium and large holdings grew when compared to 2009
LAND USE - Importance of permanent crops increased
IRRIGATION - 83.1% of the Utilised Agricultural Area can be irrigated
LIVESTOCK - Reduction in the number of the main species
AGRICULTURAL MACHINERY - Motocultivators, motorbikes and brushcutters have increased over the last ten years
FAMILIAR-BASED AGRICULTURAL POPULATION AND AGRICULTURAL LABOURFORCE - Sole agricultural holder is male, over 65 years of age and with the 4th year of education level
CONDITIONALISMS TO AGRICULTURAL ACTIVITY - Rat attacks motivate complaints from 2 out of 3 holdings
