Number of non-financial enterprises and its number of employees increased, while turnover and Gross Value Added decreased

DREM releases today on its official statistics website, a set of tables for the financial and non-financial enterprises headquartered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, with data for the 2008-2015 period.

In 2015 there were 24,618 enterprises headquartered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, 257 of which from the financial sector and 24,361 of the non-financial sector. The total of enterprises employed 64,832 persons, 62,293 in the non-financial sector and 2,539 in the financial sector.

In the reference year, the number of non-financial enterprises sector of the Autonomous Region of Madeira increased by 3.0% and the employees by 1.5%.

In 2015, the turnover generated by Madeira’s enterprises stood at  3,897.6 million Euros, down by 3.9% from 2014 while the Gross Value Added at market prices (GVAmp) stood at 1,172.5 million Euros, dropping by 2.1% from 2014.

By industry, the most important sector was “Accommodation and food service activities” (248.6 million euros, 21.2% of the total GVA), followed by “Trade” (201.0 million euros, 17.1% of the GVA), “Transportation and storage” (127.5 million euros, 10.9% of the GVA) and “Construction” (118.6 million euros; 10.1% of the GVA).

The number of establishments of non-financial enterprises in the Region stood at 25,838, up by 3.1% from 2014. The number of employees in those establishments was 70,340, rising by 5.2% between 2014 and 2015. The turnover reached 4.584,7 billion euros, down by 0.4% from 2014.
