Number of non-financial enterprises and its number of employees, turnover and Gross Value Added increased
DREM releases today on its official statistics website, a set of tables for the financial and non-financial enterprises headquartered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, with data for the 2008-2016 period.
In 2016 there were 25,351 enterprises headquartered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, 243 of which from the financial sector and 25,108 of the non-financial sector. The total of enterprises employed 65,276 persons, 64,881 in the non-financial sector and 395 in the financial sector.
In the reference year, the number of non-financial enterprises sector of the Autonomous Region of Madeira increased by 3.1% and the employees by 4.2%.
In 2016, the turnover generated by Madeira’s enterprises stood at 4,089.4 million Euros, up by 4.9% from 2015. The Gross Value Added at market prices (GVAmp) stood at 1,295.7 million Euros, increasing by 10.5% from 2015.
By industry, the most important sector was “Accommodation and food service activities” (302.2 million euros, 23.3% of the total GVA), followed by “Trade” (221.1 million euros, 17.1% of the GVA), “Transportation and storage” (146.1 million euros, 11.3% of the GVA) and “Construction” (122.5 million euros; 9.5% of the GVA).
The number of establishments of non-financial enterprises in the Region stood at 26,705, up by 3.4% from 2015. The number of employees in those establishments was 72,978, rising by 3.8% between 2015 and 2016. The turnover reached 4.844,0 billion euros, up by 5.7% from 2015.
