Number of workers employed in the Regional Administration of Madeira increased year-on-year but decreased over the previous quarter
According to the data released by the Directorate-General for Administration and Public Employment (DGAEP) on the latest issue of SIEP (Synthesis of Public Employment Statistics) - released yesterday, 16th November 2020 - there were 19,480 persons working in the Regional Government of Madeira (RGM) at 30/09/2020. Compared to the previous quarter, the change was -23 (-0.1%) and the year-on-year increase was 61 (+0.3%). Compared to the end of 2011 there was a drop of 1,874 persons (-8.8%).
The Social Security Funds were the only subsector to show a year-on-year decrease (-0.8%). The Central Administration had the highest year-on-year increase (+1.8%). Compared to the previous quarter, the Social Security Funds was the sub-sector with the higher growth (+0.6%). The number of workers in the general government decreased by 0.7% from the previous quarter and increased year-on-year by 1.6%.
In the RGM, the year-on-year growth in the workers is explained by the hiring of senior officers, nursing professionals, operational assistants/workers and medical doctors.
Between December 2011 and September 2020, only the Regional Government of the Azores increased the number of workers (+8.8%). All other sub-sectors recorded a decline, headed by the Social Security Funds (-15.8%) and followed by the Regional Administration of Madeira (-8.8%). The Local Administration (-1.7%) was the only sub-sector with a decrease below the average of the General Government (-3.8%), with the Central Administration standing slightly above this average (-4.1%).

In July 2020, the monthly basic salary in the Public Administration of the Autonomous Region of Madeira was EUR 1 549.2, up by 7.3% year-on-year, while the average monthly earnings stood at EUR 1 781.1, a 8.0% growth compared to July 2019.
