Share of the expenditures of households on housing increased

According to the provisional results of the Household Budget Survey 2015/2016, the annual mean consumption expenditure of households living in the Autonomous Region of Madeira was €18,473 in 2015/2016, corresponding to a 0.6% decrease in nominal terms when compared to 2010/2011, the reference period of the previous Survey.

In aggregate, the expenditures on housing (33.6%), transport (14.4%) and food (13.9%) represented a very similar share (61.9%) to the one recorded 5 years before (62.0%). Despite the structure of the expenditure remaining identical when compared to the previous Survey, there was an increase in the proportion of the expenditures on housing (32.1% in 2010/11 and 33.6% in 2015/16) and a decrease in the share of the expenditures on transport (15.7% in 2010/11 and 14.4% in 2015/16) and food (14.2% in 2010/2011 and 13.9% in 2015/2016).

In the country, the annual mean consumption expenditure of households amounted to €20,916, up by 2.6% from 2010/2011 (€20,391).
