In September 2017

Madeira’s economy maintained a positive growth.

The Regional Indicator of Economic Activity (RIEA) indicates that economic activity maintained a positive growth in the month of September, despite a new small slowdown compared to the prior month, which is consistent with a more moderate growth in most of the variables that compose the RIEA, in particular the variables that reflect the specialization pattern of the regional economy - is the case of overnight stays in hotel establishment that continues to grow, but at a more moderate pace than in 2016.

It should be noted that this indicator is a synthesis instrument whose objective is to facilitate the timely monitoring of the regional economy, in particular as regards to direction and magnitude of fluctuations, and does not present itself as a substitute for other official statistics, namely of annual rate of change of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
