Madeira’s economic growth remained stable
The Regional Indicator of Economic Activity (IRAE) indicates that the regional economic activity in February 2020 continued to grow at a similar pace when compared to the preceding month. It should be noted that in the reference month, the effects of COVID-19 had not yet been felt in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, and in fact the World Health Organization only declared the state of pandemic on March 11.
It should be noted that this indicator is a synthesis instrument whose objective is to facilitate the timely monitoring of the regional economy, in particular as regards to direction and magnitude of fluctuations, and does not present itself as a substitute for other official statistics, namely of annual rate of change of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
