• Law no 22/2008 (Official Journal (OJ) no 92 1^st Series, of 13^th May 2008) - Law of the National Statistical System - The National Statistical System - NSS - includes the Statistical Council, the State body that superintends and coordinates the system; the National Statistical Institute, IP (hereinafter referred to as Statistics Portugal), the central body responsible for the production and dissemination of official statistics, that ensures the supervision and the technical and scientific coordination of the NSS; the Bank of Portugal that, as part of its mission, is responsible for the collection and compilation of monetary, financial, foreign exchange and balance of payments statistics; the Regional Directorates of Statistics of the Autonomous Regions of Azores (SREA) and Madeira (DREM) that act as delegations of Statistics Portugal in relation to nationwide statistics and as statistical authorities in what concerns regional statistics; and other entities producing official statistics by delegation of Statistics Portugal.
• Regional Regulatory Decree no. 13/2015/M (O.J. no. 159 - 1^st series, of 17^th August 2015) – Approves  the organisational structure of the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira. The Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) is a body of the direct administration of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, integrated in the Regional Secretariat of Finance and Public Administration, in accordance with the  Regional Regulatory Decree no. 3/2015/M, of 28th May. The mission of DREM is the production and dissemination of official statistical information for the Autonomous Region of Madeira, which is carried out  abiding by the fundamental principles of the National Statistical System (NSS).
• Regional Regulatory Decree no. 12/2021/M (O.J. no. 221 - 1^st series, of 15^th November 2021) – Undertakes the first amendment to Regional Regulatory Decree no. 13/2015/M, of 17th August, wich approves the structure of the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira.
• Regional Regulatory Decree no. 12/2025/M (Republic Diary no. 167 - 1^st series, of 1^st September 2025) - Approves the organisational structure of the Regional Secretariat of Finance.
• Ordinance no. 522/2025 (Regional Official Journal no. 160 – 1^st series, of 16^th September 2025) – Approves the permanent structure of the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira.
• Ordinance no. 652/2025 (Regional Official Journal no. 168 – 2^nd series, of 17^th September 2025) - Approves the flexible structure of the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira.
