Statistical Cooperation with regional, national and international bodies who carry out their activity in the domain of official statistics, with the goal of providing data, sharing the best practices and the exchange of know-how, is one of the tasks of the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM).
DREM keeps regular contact with other bodies of the government, which are simultaneously data providers and data users. In fact, these contacts have intensified in the last few years, with the goal of gathering administrative data for statistical purposes and dissemination, using the data owned by these bodies.
According to the Regional Finance Law, DREM is responsible for presenting to the national statistical authorities an estimate in National Accounts of both the Non-financial and Financial Account of the Regional Administration of Madeira, and this fact resulted in a stronger cooperation with other regional and national organizations.
At the level of national cooperation, it must be highlighted the institutional connection with the Statistical Council (CSE) - the State body that superintends and coordinates the national Statistical System (SEN) – and also with the statistical authorities, namely Statistics Portugal (INE), the Bank of Portugal (BdP) and the Regional Directorate of Statistics of the Azores (SREA).
In the scope of the EU Initiative INTERREG III – B and of the Madeira-Azores-Canary Islands Transnational Cooperation Programme, DREM has been working jointly, since 2003, with its counterparts from the Azores and the Canary Islands, in highly relevant projects for the Region with an innovative feature, which have made possible the use of the benefits of pro-active promotion of such cooperation, including sharing of best practices and the exchange of know-how. A reference should be made to the main goals of the following projects:
Until the end of 2014, DREM will conclude the following projects:
CONTRIMAC – Regional Accounts of the Macaronesia, with the goal of calculating the main macroeconomic aggregates of the Region on a quarterly basis in order to have a series of indicators that can characterize the state of the economic activity of each archipelago;
METAMAC – Integrated System of the Statistical Data and Metadata, with the goal of improving the quality of statistical data which are produced in the statistical bodies of the Macaronesia Region, through the integration of metadata.
