In the 2^nd quarter of 2026
Number of family dwellings sold in the Autonomous Region of Madeira increased compared with the previous quarter, but fell year-on-year

In the 2^nd quarter of 2026, 672 dwellings were transacted in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM), representing an increase of 1.1% compared with the previous quarter and a decrease of 15.2% year-on-year.

Of the total dwellings sold in the quarter, 566 were existing dwellings (84.2% of the total), with the remaining 106 (15.8%) being new dwellings. Compared with the previous quarter, these two types of dwellings showed opposite trends: sales of existing dwellings increased by 4.2%, while sales of new dwellings decreased by 13.1%. Compared with the year-earlier quarter, the respective changes were -11.6% and -30.3%.

The value of dwellings transacted in the reference period stood at 211.7 million euros, down by 1.6% from the previous quarter (215.2 million euros) and also dropping by 2.8% over the year-earlier quarter (217.8 million euros). For new dwellings, the value of sales reached 49.6 million euros (-4.1% and -20.7% compared with the previous and year-earlier quarters, respectively), while that for existing dwellings stood at 162.1 million euros (-0.9% and +4.4% compared with the previous and year-earlier quarters, in the same order).

In the reference quarter, Madeiran households acquired 543 residential dwellings, -2.0% and -15.9% compared with the previous and year-earlier quarters, respectively. In value terms, transactions of this type amounted to 171.8 million euros, -4.0% compared with the previous quarter and -6.1% compared with the 2^nd quarter of 2025.

Nationally, 40.1 thousand dwellings were transacted in the 2^nd quarter of 2026, representing a quarterly increase of 6.4% and a year-on-year decrease of 6.4%. These transactions generated 10.7 thousand million euros, +7.8% compared with the 1^st quarter of 2026 and +4.2% compared with the same period of the previous year.

In cumulative terms, in the 1^st half of 2026, the number of dwellings sold in the ARM fell by 20.7%, while their value fell by 11.7% (changes of -7.5% and +3.7% at the national level, respectively).
