Implicit interest rate on housing loans in the Region rose to 3.162%, after having decreased in the two previous months
According to information provided by Statistics Portugal (INE), in June 2026, the implicit interest rate on housing loans in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM) stood at 3.162%, recording an increase of 0.041 percentage points (pp) compared with the previous month. It should also be noted that, in June 2025, the implicit interest rate on housing loans was 3.528%.
The average value of loan repayments for all housing loan agreements increased by 5 euros compared with the previous month, standing at 404 euros. Interest grew by 4 euros compared with the previous month, standing at 190 euros, while the amortisation component increased by 1 euro, to 214 euros. In the same month of the previous year, the average value of the loan repayment was 398 euros.
In turn, the average outstanding amount of housing loan agreements continued to increase, reaching, in June 2026, 72 750 euros (72 356 euros in the previous month). A year earlier, it stood at 68 463 euros.
At the national level, and considering the whole of housing loan contracts, the implicit interest rate stood at 3.101%, 0.036 pp higher than in the previous month. The average value of loan repayments for all housing loan agreements grew to 411 euros, with the average amount of capital outstanding growing to 78 865 euros (78 257 euros in the previous month). Nationally, interest rates rose by 4 euros compared with the previous month, to 202 euros, while amortised capital increased to 209 euros.
