In the second quarter of 2020
Cement sales decreased
According to the data collected by the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM), in the second quarter of 2020, the cement sales in the Autonomous Region of Madeira stood at 27.3 thousand tonnes, corresponding to a quarterly decrease of 12.2% and to a year-on-year decline of 15.1%. In April, the cement sales were the 3rd lowest ever since January 1982 (first month of the time series), which determined the aforementioned negative change rates. This reflects the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. However in May and June, the cement sales were in line with the last 3 years.
Regarding the value of cement sold in the Autonomous Region of Madeira in the reference quarter, it stood at 3.0 millions of euros, having decreased 21.7% year-on-year.
