Number of building permits and completed buildings in the Autonomous Region of Madeira increased compared to the previous year
According to preliminary data collected by the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira from the Municipalities of the Region, within the framework of the Urban Operations Indicators System, 508 buildings were licensed in 2023, an increase of 4 (+0.8%) compared to 2022 (504). The completed buildings amounted to 403, representing a 5.5% increase compared to 2022 (382). Both variables reached highs regarding the values recorded in recent years. In the case of buildings permits, a value as high as this had not been recorded since 2012 and for completed buildings, since 2013.
Of the licensed construction and demolition works, 69.3% corresponded to new constructions (352), of which 87.8% were for family housing (309). These constructions resulted in the licensing of 1,105 dwellings in new constructions for family housing, an increase of 61.5% compared to 2022 (684).
As for the completed buildings (403), 68.0% of these were new constructions for family housing (274). Regarding the dwellings in new constructions for family housing (600), the results indicate a decrease of 23.5% compared to the previous year (784).
Regarding the 4th quarter of 2023, building permits (117) saw an increase of 7.3% compared to the same quarter, while completed buildings (91) observed a decrease of 14.2%.
