Building permits and completed buildings in the Autonomous Region of Madeira grew compared to the previous year

According to preliminary data compiled by the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) from the Municipal Councils of the Region, within the framework of the Urban Operations Indicators System, in 2025, 561 buildings were granted licenses, 12 more (+2.2%) than in 2024 (549). In turn, completed buildings stood at 392, representing an increase of 3.2% compared to 2024 (380).

Of the building and demolition works licensed, 76.6% corresponded to new constructions (430), of which 91.6% were intended for family housing (394). These works resulted in the licensing of 966 dwellings in new constructions for family housing, down by 10.1% over 2024 (1 074).

As regards completed buildings (392), 69.6% corresponded to new constructions for family housing (273). With regard to completed dwellings in new constructions for family housing (934), the results indicate an increase of 0.9% compared to the previous year (926).

Regarding the 4^th quarter of 2024, building permits (132) recorded a decrease of 13.2% compared to the same quarter of the previous year, whilst completed buildings (96) recorded a reduction of 2.0%.
