In the first nine months of 2025
Main fuels released for consumption increased by 3.2% compared with the same period of the previous year
According to data provided by the Funchal Customs, during the first nine months of 2025, in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM), the main fuels released for consumption (diesel and gasoline) reached 128.0 million litres, representing an increase of 3.2% compared with the corresponding period of the previous year.
The breakdown by main fuel type shows that 81.4 million litres of diesel were released for consumption, down by 0.1% over the same period of the previous year. With regard to the release for consumption of 95-octane and 98-octane gasoline, it amounted to 36.8 million litres and 9.7 million litres, respectively, corresponding to year-on-year changes of +8.4% and +13.7%.
For propane and butane gas, the release for consumption in the reference period was approximately 9.5 thousand tonnes and 3.5 thousand tonnes, respectively (+8.3% and –13.1% compared with the same period of the previous year). As for natural gas, the volume released for consumption totalled 19.9 thousand tonnes, representing a +10.6% increase compared with the corresponding period of the previous year.
When focusing the analysis on the third quarter of 2025, it is observed that the release for consumption of the main fuels (diesel and gasoline) amounted to 45.2 million litres, a figure 3.6% higher than that recorded in the same period of the previous year. During that quarter, the demand for diesel stood at 27.8 million litres, 0.4% lower than in the third quarter of 2024. Regarding gasoline, between July and September 2025, the volume released for consumption of 95 and 98-octane gasoline was 13.8 million litres and 3.6 million litres, representing increases of 9.8% and 14.9%, respectively, compared with the same period of the previous year.
Average diesel prices increased in the third quarter of 2025 compared with the same period of the previous year, whereas average gasoline prices decreased
In the third quarter of 2025, the average price of diesel stood at 1.451 euros, higher than both the price recorded in the same period of the previous year (1.310 euros) and that of the previous quarter (1.410 euros). In the case of 95-octane gasoline, the average price was 1.573 euros , showing a decrease of 0.7 cents compared with the price observed in the corresponding period of the previous year and an increase of 1.5 cents compared to the previous quarter.
