The Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) releases today on its official statistics website data on public employment in the Autonomous Region of Madeira. These data comes from the Directorate-General for Administration and Public Employment, more precisely from SIEP (Synthesis of Public Employment Statistics) – 3^rd quarter 2016 – and BOEP (Bulletin of Public Employment Statistics) – October 2016. Prior to the data release, the information is analysed in cooperation with DRAPMA (Regional Directorate for Public Administration and Administrative Modernisation).

In the 3^rd quarter 2016

Public Employment in the Regional Administration of Madeira decreased by 1.7% from the last quarter

The provisional data show that at 30/09/2016 there were 19,297 persons working in the Regional Administration of Madeira, down by 330 (-1.7%) from the previous quarter. If compared with the same day of 2015, public employment dropped by 527 persons (-2.7%). At 31/12/2011 the number of persons working in the Regional Administration of Madeira stood at 21,354. This figure has been declining steadily quarter after quarter with the exception of the 4^th quarter of 2014 and the 2^nd quarter of 2016, with the 3^rd quarter of 2016 resuming the downward trend.    

The decline in public employment in the reference quarter is explained by the transition of staff from the Regional Secretariat  for Inclusion and Social Affairs to the Social Security Institute of Madeira, which is included in the Social Security Funds subsector.
