Number of workers employed in the Regional Administration of Madeira increased year-on-year, but decreased compared to the previous quarter
According to the data released by the Directorate-General for Administration and Public Employment (DGAEP) on the latest issue of SIEP (Synthesis of Public Employment Statistics) - released yesterday, 24th September 2020 - there were 19,503 persons working in the Regional Government of Madeira (RGM) at 30/06/2020. Compared to the previous quarter, the change was -62 (-0.3%), and the year-on-year increase was 123 (+0.6%). Compared to the end of 2011 there was a decrease of 1,851 persons (-8.7%).
The year-on-year growth registered in the RGM also occurred on all other institutional sub-sectors of the Public Administration. The Central Administration had the highest increase (+2.5%), as well as the most pronounced growth compared to the previous quarter (+0.3%). The general government sector rate increased by 0.2% from the previous quarter and the year-on-year increase was 2.2%.
Between December 2011 and June 2020, only the Regional Government of the Azores increased the number of workers (+8.2%). All other sub-sectors recorded a decline, headed by the Social Security Funds (-16.2%) and followed by the Regional Administration of Madeira (-8.7%). The Local Administration (-2.0%) was the only sub-sector with a decrease below the average of the General Government (-3.1%), with the Central Administration standing slightly above this average (-3.2%).

The estimated mean age of the workers of the Regional Administration of Madeira in December 2019 was 48.3 years (48.0 years a year earlier).
More than half of the ARM workers (57.9%) have higher education, 25.0% have only basic education and the remaining 17.1%, secondary education.
In April 2020, the monthly basic salary in the Public Administration of the Autonomous Region of Madeira was EUR 1 529.3, up by 7.5% year-on-year, while the average monthly earnings stood at EUR 1 749.4, a 7.1% growth compared to April 2019.
