8.8% of the enterprises headquartered in the Region used Artificial Intelligence technologies
The Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) releases today the main results of the 2024 Survey on the Use of Information and Communication Technologies, for the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM). With the exception of financial data, which refers to 2024, the remaining information pertains to the year 2025. This survey is conducted nationwide, usually between February and July each year, and the coordination of this statistical operation in the ARM is the responsibility of DREM.
In 2025, 99.9% of enterprises in the ARM and 39.5% of employees have internet access for professional purposes, an increase of 1.6 percentage points and 0.7 percentage points, respectively, compared to 2024. At the national level, these indicators were 98.8% and 51.1%, respectively.
In the same year, 53.8% of enterprises indicated having their own website or one belonging to the economic group to which they belong, with the majority of these enterprises providing descriptions of goods or services and/or price lists (90.1%; 77.3% at the national level).
Sales through e-commerce accounted for 12.5% of the total turnover in 2024 (an increase of 0.8 percentage points from the previous year), reaching 744 million euros (an increase of 18.6% compared to 2023). Nationally, these indicators corresponded to 20.6% (+1.1 pp compared to 2023) and 83 927 billion euros (+9,8% compared to 2023), respectively.
In 2025, 45.7% of enterprises purchased cloud computing services (an increase of 1.3 percentage points from 2023), with email and file storage services being prominent (84.1% and 74.3%, respectively).
In 2025, 8.8% of enterprises use Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies (11.5% nationwide), an increase of 3.5 percentage points from 2024, with the most commonly used being those that generate images, videos, sound/audio and those that analyse written language (text mining), following a pattern very similar to that observed at the national level.
