12-month average rate of change of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in the Autonomous Region of Madeira remained at 3.5%, the same value as in the previous month
In October 2025, the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM) recorded a 12-month average rate of change of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 3.5%, the same value as in the previous month.
The underlying inflation indicator — the indicator that excludes unprocessed food and energy products — stood at 3.4%, representing an increase of 0.1 percentage points (pp) compared with September.
The prices of goods rose by 2.4%, while services recorded a more pronounced increase of 4.9%.
The largest positive changes were observed in the expenditure classes of “Restaurants and hotels” (10.3%), “Health” (4.5%), and “Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels” (4.4%). Conversely, “Clothing and footwear” was the only class to record a negative change (-0.2%).
At the national level, in October 2025, the average rate of change of the CPI was 2.4%, also identical to that of the previous month.
On a year-on-year basis, the CPI in the ARM increased by 3.9%, representing a rise of 0.9 pp compared with September.
The most significant positive changes occurred in “Restaurants and hotels” (13.5%), “Alcoholic beverages and tobacco” (7.7%), and “Transport” (5.0%), whereas “Communications” recorded the sharpest negative change (-2.7%).
At the national level, the year-on-year rate of change of the CPI decreased to 2.3% in October 2025, 0.1 pp lower than in the previous month.
In monthly terms, the CPI in the ARM recorded a decrease of 0.7%, following an increase of 0.7% in September. Among the various expenditure classes analysed, the largest decline was observed in “Transport” (-4.9%), while “Education” registered the most significant increase (+3.8%).
In the country as a whole, the monthly rate of change in the CPI was nil, following a 0.9% increase in the previous month.
In October 2025, the housing rent per square meter of floor area in the Region rose by 0.7% compared with the previous month and 7.4% year-on-year (0.5% and 7.1%, respectively, in the previous month).
