Twelve-month average rate of change of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose to 3.5% and the year-on-year change rate to 5.0%

In June 2026, in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM), the twelve-month average change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) stood at 3.5%, 0.2 percentage points (pp) higher than in the previous month.

The underlying inflation indicator, which excludes unprocessed food and energy products, stood at 2.9%, an increase of 0.1 pp compared with the previous month.

The prices of goods rose by 2.4%, while services recorded a more pronounced increase of 4.7%.

The largest positive changes were observed in the classes of "Restaurants and hotels" (7.5%), "Transport" (4.6%) and "Health" (4.1%). Conversely, the class of "Recreation, sport and culture" recorded the sharpest negative change (-1.4%).

Nationally, the CPI recorded an average change of 2.6% (2.5% in the previous month).

In year-on-year terms, that is, comparing June 2026 with the same month of 2025, the change in prices was 5.0% in the ARM (3.2% nationally), representing an increase of 0.4 pp compared with the previous month.

The largest year-on-year changes were observed in "Transport" (11.8%), "Restaurants and hotels" (8.8%) and "Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels" (4.7%). Conversely, the class of "Information and communication" recorded the sharpest negative change (-3.1%).

Among the aggregates, "Energy products" stood out, recording a year-on-year price change of 11.5%. In turn, goods and services prices rose by 3.0% and 7.3%, respectively.

The classes of "Transport" (+2.3 pp), "Restaurants and hotels" (+0.9 pp) and "Food and non-alcoholic beverages" (+0.7 pp) contributed most to the year-on-year change in the CPI.

In month-on-month terms, June 2026 saw a change of 0.3% in the ARM, following the 0.8% increase observed in the previous month. Nationally, the CPI change was 0.1%, following the 0.2% recorded in May 2026.

In June 2026, the average value of housing rents per square metre of floor area in the Region recorded a change of 0.5% compared with the previous month and 7.0% in year-on-year terms (0.6% and 6.7% in the previous month, respectively).
