Twelve-month average rate of change of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose to 3.7%, while the year-on-year change rate slowed to 4.1%
In August 2026, in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM), the twelve-month average rate of change of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) stood at 3.7%, a figure 0.1 percentage points (pp) higher than that observed in the previous month.
The underlying inflation indicator, which excludes unprocessed food and energy products, stood at 3.2%, representing an increase of 0.1 pp compared with the previous month.
Goods prices rose by 2.4%, while services recorded a more pronounced increase of 5.1%.
The largest positive changes were observed in the classes of "Restaurants and accommodation services" (7.6%), "Transport" (6.0%) and "Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels" (4.0%). Conversely, the "Information and communication" class recorded the sharpest negative change (-1.5%).
Nationally, the CPI showed an average change of 2.7% (2.6% in the previous month).
In year-on-year terms, that is, comparing August 2026 with the same month of 2025, the change in prices was 4.1% in the ARM (3.3% nationally), representing a decrease of 0.6 pp compared with the previous month.
The largest year-on-year changes were observed in "Transport" (8.0%), "Restaurants and accommodation services" (6.4%) and "Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels" (4.7%). Conversely, the "Information and communication" class was the only one to record a negative year-on-year change rate (-2.8%).
Among the aggregates, "Energy products" stood out, recording a year-on-year price change of 14.2%. In turn, the prices of goods and services rose by 3.2% and 4.9%, respectively.
The classes of "Transport" (+1.6 pp) and "Restaurants and accommodation services" (+0.7 pp) were the largest contributors to the year-on-year change in the CPI.
In monthly terms, there was a change of -0.6% in the ARM in August 2026, following the 0.5% decrease observed in the previous month. At the national level, the CPI change was nil, after the 0.5% reduction recorded in July 2026.
In August 2026, the average value of housing rents per square metre of usable floor area in the Region recorded a change of 0.6% compared with the previous month and of 6.9% year-on-year (0.5% and 7.0% in the previous month, respectively).
