In January 2026,
Confidence indicators increased in Trade and Services, while they decreased in Manufacturing Industry and Construction and Public Works
According to information collected by the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) through the Qualitative Business Surveys (IQC), in January 2026, confidence indicators in Manufacturing Industry and in Construction and Public Works decreased compared with the previous month, while an increase was observed in Trade and Services.
The confidence indicator for Manufacturing Industry decreased in January and December, following an increase in November. This development was mainly due to the negative contribution of assessments regarding product stocks, as the remaining components – opinions on the evolution of overall demand and production prospects – showed a positive performance. The balance of expectations regarding selling prices decreased in January, after having increased in December.
In Construction and Public Works, the confidence indicator decreased in January, following an increase in December. The evolution in the last month reflected the negative contribution of assessments concerning order books and employment prospects. The balance of expectations regarding prices charged over the next three months increased in December and January, after having decreased in November.
The confidence indicator for Trade increased in January, following a decrease in December. The evolution of the indicator in January resulted from the positive contribution of sales volume, while assessments concerning business activity prospects and stock volumes contributed negatively. The balance of expectations regarding future price developments rose between October and January, after having decreased in September.
In Services, the confidence indicator increased in January, after having decreased consecutively throughout the second half of 2025. The evolution of the indicator resulted from the positive contribution of opinions on the past evolution of order books, business activity and expectations regarding the future demand developments. The balance of expectations regarding prices charged for services increased between October and January, after having declined in the previous five months.
