In the first nine months of 2023
Weighted annual average daily traffic on the Via Rápida increased by 9.4% compared to the same period last year
According to information provided by the Regional Directorate of Roads (DRE), from January to September 2023, road traffic count increased by 9.1% on the Via Rápida and 13.1% on Vias Expresso compared to the same period in 2022. When compared to 2019, the growth rates were even higher, at +16.4% and +24.8%, respectively. The aforementioned increases for the first nine months of 2022 were primarily driven by light vehicle traffic, which saw positive changes in both the Via Rápida (+9.2%) and Vias Expresso (+13.7%). In the case of heavy vehicles, the change was also positive on the Via Rápida (+3.3%), though of lesser magnitude, but negative on Vias Expresso (-7.0%).
In the first three quarters of 2023, the weighted daily average traffic, on average, recorded 35.9 thousand vehicles on the Via Rápida and 6.9 thousand vehicles on Vias Expresso, representing increases of 9.4% and 13.2%, respectively. The evolution of light vehicle traffic (+9.5% on the Via Rápida; +13.7% on Vias Expresso) had a decisive impact on this change. Due to the relatively small share of heavy vehicle traffic (2.4% and 2.1% of the total, respectively), the changes compared to 2022 (+3.0% on the Via Rápida; -6.7% on the Vias Expresso) had limited influence on the overall indicator.

Note: The weighted annual average daily traffic corresponds to the number of vehicles that, on average, travel the length of each road every day.
