Passenger movement at the airports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira recorded a year-on-year increase of 13.1%

According to the information provided by ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal to the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM), a total of 508.1 thousand passengers were recorded at the airports of the ARM in October 2025, transported on 3 384 commercial aircraft movements, corresponding to year-on-year changes of +13.1% and +11.1%, respectively.

In the reference month, Madeira Airport registered an increase both in aircraft movements (3 126; +12.6% compared with October 2024) and in the number of passengers (484.7 thousand; +13.7%). At Porto Santo Airport, although aircraft movements declined (258; -4.1% compared with the same period of 2024), the number of passengers increased (23.4 thousand; +2.0%).

In the first ten months of 2025, aircraft movements and passenger movements grew by +14.0% and +13.1%, respectively.

In the month under review, each aircraft (considering both landings and take-offs) carried, on average, around 155 passengers (153 in October 2024) at Madeira Airport, while at Porto Santo Airport, the figure almost reached 91 passengers (85 in the same period of 2024).

In October 2025, passenger movement at the Autonomous Region of Madeira airports increased by 15.2% in international traffic (285.3 thousand) and by +10.5% in domestic traffic (222.8 thousand).

At Madeira Airport, international traffic (58.2%) predominated over domestic traffic (41.8% of the total). At Porto Santo Airport, domestic traffic accounted for the majority (86.3% of the total), with a greater imbalance compared with the same period in 2024 (75.8% of the total).

In the reference month, regular flights at the ARM airports accounted for 93.4% of all aircraft movements and 95.6% of all passengers (90.9% and 94.0% in October 2024, respectively).

In October 2025, the occupancy of aircraft operating at the ARM airports stood at 86.4%, with Madeira Airport reaching 87.0% and Porto Santo Airport 75.7%. In the previous year, the corresponding occupancy rate was higher for the two regional airports combined (87.3%) and for Madeira Airport (88.3%), while Porto Santo Airport recorded a lower figure (73.4%).

From January to October 2025, the total number of passengers embarking and disembarking at the airports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (excluding those in transit) totalled 4 849.5 thousand, 44.0% of whom were associated with traffic exclusively between airports located within national territory (including internal and domestic traffic), while 56.0% corresponded to international traffic. Within the latter, the United Kingdom (26.8%) and Germany (20.2%) were the main countries of origin and destination for international flights at RAM airports. France (10.9%) ranked third, followed by Poland (9.4%).

Madeira Airport expanded its number of airlines, routes and destinations

The IATA (International Air Transport Association) Summer season began on 30 March 2025 and ended on 25 October 2025. During this period, Madeira Airport operated commercial flights for 33 airlines (25 in the 2024 IATA Summer season), with 81 routes (67 in the corresponding period) and to 75 destinations (61 in the 2024 IATA Summer season). At Porto Santo Airport, commercial flights were operated on 7 routes (8 in the 2024 IATA Summer season) by 8 airlines (8 in the corresponding period) and to 7 destinations (8 in the 2024 IATA Summer season).
