Average gross monthly earnings per worker increased by 7.3% year-on-year, to 1 474 euros
The Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) released the provisional values for the first quarter of 2025 regarding the average monthly earnings per worker of entities headquartered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM).
In the first quarter of 2025, the average total gross monthly earnings per worker (per job) increased by 7.3% compared to the same period in 2024, reaching 1 474 euros. Both regular earnings and base earnings saw increases of 4.6% and 4.5%, reaching values of 1 310 and 1 262 euros, respectively.
In real terms, adjusted for the Consumer Price Index (CPI) change in the Region, the total average earnings per worker increased by 3.1%, regular earnings grew by 0.6%, and the base earnings per worker rose by 0.5%, compared to the first quarter of 2024.
These figures correspond to 106.4 thousand job positions (+3.1% compared to the first quarter of 2024), comprising both beneficiaries of Social Security and subscribers to the Caixa Geral de Aposentações of entities headquartered in ARM.
In year-on-year terms, the most significant increases in total earnings were observed in " Mining and quarrying" (section B; +15.4%), " Public administration and defence; Compulsory social security" (section O; +11.8%), enterprises with 100 to 249 workers (+10.2%), Public sector (+10.0%), mainly non-tradable non-market goods and services sector (+9.9%) and enterprises in "Knowledge intensive services" (+8.7%).
In the first quarter of 2025, the average total gross monthly earnings per worker in the Region was 1 474 euros, 51 euros below the national average, which stood at 1 525 euros. The year-on-year change, in nominal terms, in the country, was 5.3% (1 449 euros in March 2024) and, in real terms, 2.9%.
