In the fourth quarter of 2017
Estimated unemployment rate was 8.9%
The Labour Force Survey results for the fourth quarter of 2017 indicate that the Unemployment Rate for Madeira was estimated at 8.9%. This value decreased by 2.1 percentage points (p.p.) when compared with the same quarter of 2016 and by 0.4 p.p. from the previous quarter, being the lowest value in the available series (which begin in the 1st quarter 2017).
The unemployment rate for Portugal reached 8.1% (down by 0.4 p.p. from the previous quarter).
The estimate of the unemployed population in Madeira stood at 12.0 thousand persons, having recorded a quarterly decrease of 1.6% (-0.2 thousand unemployed persons).
The employed population was estimated at 122.9 thousand persons, representing a quarterly increase of 3.0% (+3.6 thousand persons employed).
In the year of 2017, the unemployment rate in Madeira stood at 10.4%, decreasing by 2.5 p.p. from the prior year. In Portugal, this rate was 8.1%.
