In the 1st quarter of 2018
Year-on-year increase in the number of deaths worsened the natural decrease of population
Preliminary data from demographic statistics show that in the first quarter of 2018, the Autonomous Region of Madeira registered a negative natural change (-362 persons).
The number of live births in this period (479) was smaller than the number of deaths (841). In the same period of 2017, the natural change had been also negative (-206 persons, the result of 475 live births and 681 deaths).
In the first three months of 2018, 2 death under one year and 2 foetal deaths were reported.
There were also 148 marriages, up by 9 over the same period of 2017.
