DREM releases income statistics for the year 2022 based on Personal Income Tax return
The Regional Directorate Statistics of Madeira (DREM) releases, on an annual basis, a set of information based on anonymised tax data from the Tax and Customs Authority (AT) related to the Personal Income Tax (IRS - Model 3) return. These data, pertaining to 2022 and broken down by municipality, is obtained under a protocol signed between Statistics Portugal (INE) and the AT.
The study includes various indicators related to gross reported income both inclusive and exclusive of tax payments, for tax households and taxable individuals. Additionally, income inequality is assessed through the Gini coefficient and the P80/P20 ratio.
In 2022, 125,924 tax households and 171,098 taxable persons were recorded in the Region. Both variables grew by 5.3% and 4.3%, respectively, compared to 2021. Nationally, these figures increased by 3.9% and 3.3%, respectively.
