DREM releases time series on temperature and precipitation including data for 2015
DREM releases today the time series on temperature and precipitation updated with information for 2015.
Between 1976 and 2015, the year with the highest rainfall was 2010 - 1,535.3 mm in Funchal and 588.4 mm in Porto Santo.
In 2015, the annual precipitation stood at 299.5 mm in Funchal (481.6 mm in 2014) and 306.3 mm in Porto Santo (483.3 mm in 2014). Compared with 2014, the number of rainless days in 2015 was higher in Funchal (306 days, up by 24 from 2014 ) and also in Porto Santo (252 days, up by 28 from the previous year).
October was the month with the highest rainfall both in Funchal (135.1 mm) and Porto Santo (75.0 mm). In Porto Santo, the month with the lowest rainfall was May (1.6 mm) while in Funchal there was no rain in the month of August.
In Funchal, in the last 39 years, the annual average temperatures ranged between 18.1ºC (in 1976 and in 1984) and 20.6ºC (in 2004). In Porto Santo, this indicator reached its lowest point in 2004 (17.6ºC) and its highest point in 2010 and 2012 (19.4ºC for both years).
August was the warmest month in the reference year in both meteorological stations with medium monthly average temperatures of 24.2ºC in Funchal and 23.7ºC in Porto Santo. By contrast, February was the coldest month with medium monthly average temperatures of 16.0ºC in Funchal and 14.9ºC in Porto Santo.
August 2004 was the warmest month in the 2004-2015 period, with maximum monthly average temperatures of 28.8ºC in Funchal and 27.8ºC in Porto Santo.
