Passenger movement at airports in the Autonomous Region of Madeira recorded a year-on-year increase of 5.6%
According to information provided by ANA - Aeroportos de Portugal to the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM), in February 2026, the ARM airports handled a total of 379.0 thousand passengers, carried on 2 581 aircraft (commercial flights), corresponding to year-on-year changes of +5.6% and +0.7%, respectively.
In the reference month, Madeira Airport recorded an increase in passenger numbers (367.8 thousand; +5.4% compared to February 2025), despite a slight decrease in aircraft movements (2,418; -0.2%). At Porto Santo Airport, there was an increase in both aircraft movements (163; +14.8%) and passenger numbers (11.3 thousand; +12.2%).
In the first two months of 2026, aircraft and passenger movements increased by +2.4% and +5.0%, respectively.

In the month under review, each aircraft (considering both landings and take-offs) carried, on average, around 152 passengers (144 in February 2025) at Madeira Airport, while at Porto Santo Airport this figure reached 69 passengers (71 in the same period of 2025).
In February 2026, passenger traffic at the ARM airports increased by 7.8% in international traffic (221.1 thousand) and 2.7% in the domestic segment (158.0 thousand).
At Madeira Airport, international traffic (59.0% of the total) predominated over domestic traffic (41.0%). At Porto Santo Airport, domestic traffic (64.7% of the total) remained predominant, although with a smaller imbalance compared to the same period in 2025 (66.2%).
In the reference month, scheduled flights at the ARM airports accounted for 92.4% of total aircraft movements and 95.4% of total passengers (92.1% and 93.3% in February 2025, respectively).
In February 2026, the occupancy of aircraft operating at the ARM airports stood at approximately 86.6%, with 87.0% at Madeira Airport and 75.9% at Porto Santo Airport. In the previous year, the corresponding occupancy rate was lower overall across the two regional airports (82.5%) and at Madeira Airport (82.6%), while higher at Porto Santo Airport (79.4%).
From January to February 2026, the number of passengers embarking and disembarking at the ARM airports (excluding transit passengers) totalled 732.2 thousand, of which 42.1% corresponded to traffic exclusively between airports located in national territory (including internal and domestic connections), and 57.9% to international traffic. Within the latter, the United Kingdom (29.6%) and Germany (21.4%) were the main countries of origin and destination for international flights at the ARM airports. Poland (13.2%) ranked third, followed by the Netherlands (5.8%).
