Consumer Prices Index 12-month average rate in the Autonomous Region of Madeira was -1.3%

In August 2020, the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) 12-month average rate in Madeira was -1.3%, decreasing by 0.3 percentage points from the previous month. This macroeconomic variable started decreasing 21 months ago (with the exception of June 2020, in which the rate was the same as in May). It was also the 10-consecutive month in which the CPI 12-month average rate was negative.

The largest negative changes were observed in the "Education” (-4.4%) and "Recreation and culture" (-4.3%) classes. Conversely, the highest positive negative changes occurred in the "Restaurants and Hotels" (+2.0%) and “Alcoholic beverages and tobacco” (+1.2%) classes.

In Portugal, the value of that rate was 0.1%, the same as in the previous month.

In August 2020, the average value of housing rents per square meter of floor area in the Region was 0.3% higher than the previous month, registering a 1.8% growth compared to the same month of last year.
